TopScreen Media seals deal with World Trade Center
A firm specialising in customer engagement has won a major contract with New York’s World Trade Center. TopScreen Media, which is a tenant of the Leeds Digital Hub, has been selected to create a digital strategy for the world-renowned development, located in Lower Manhattan. One World Trade Center opened in November, as part of the area’s redevelopment following 2001’s 9/11 attacks. Four skyscrapers will occupy the site of the former Twin Towers. TopScreen Media chief executive Achille Traore told The Yorkshire Post it is a “great privilege” to be working with “the most famous development in the world”. “It is a testament to the quality of work which is produced by TopScreen Media and in the Yorkshire region in general,” he said. TopScreen Media provides technology and consultancy to improve companies’ customer engagement. Launched in 2009, the business works with Leeds City Council, Ladbrokes, Alton Towers, Hotels.com and National Express and has contracts worth £1.2m in the pipeline. It initially focused on the sports sector, providing Yorkshire teams including Leeds United and Bradford Bulls with kiosks to enable fans to buy tickets and interact with the club. Mr Traore said: “Very quickly, we started getting demands from the hosting venues about other things we could help them with. They wanted to utilise the technology for other things, such as way-finding and gift card sales, casual internet access and stuff like that. We’re all about bridging gaps; whether that’s bridging gaps between professional sports clubs and the fans or between a business and their customer, it’s all about that interaction.” While the kiosks – named OfferPods – provide information at a set point, TopScreen Media’s services include helping businesses to capture online and mobile customers. Mr Traore said: “The physical hardware we put out is a delivery mechanism to get people to use their handheld devices. For shopping centres, the OfferPod allows the customers to find out what’s happening in real time. In terms of the screen and the kiosks in situ, it’s a very efficient tool. You can have way-finding on there, so you can capitalise on the natural footfall of the centre.” TopScreen Media was selected as a participant in Goldman Sachs’ 10,000 Small Businesses global scheme, as part of a pilot of the Business Growth Programme in Leeds. As a result of its work with the scheme, the company was invited to join a trade mission to New York with the Santander Breakthrough Programme. It was this opportunity that enabled Mr Traore to pitch to New York Port Authority chief executive Patrick Foye and World Trade Center managing director Mark Pucci. “It’s quite flattering they came all the way to Yorkshire to employ us, based on our knowledge in this industry,” Mr Traore said. TopScreen Media will work as digital strategy consultants for World Trade Center, with a view to other partnerships further down the line. The company is currently preparing to bring a range of products to market and to expand into new territories, including India. “We’re looking internationally, we’re confident we have a really good product,” he said. — TopScreen Media is a tenant at Leeds Digital Hub, an innovative partnership between Leeds Beckett University and The Yorkshire Post. Tenants benefit from city-centre workspace, professional and mentoring services through the university’s Enterprise and Innovation Centres. TSM graduates from the Goldman Sachs Business Growth Programme
Investment bank Goldman Sachs has pledged to continue its pioneering business education programme in Leeds after 25 companies successfully completed its pilot in the city. The success of the Leeds pilot has led the company to commit to the programme long term and launch the initiative in Manchester. Launched last year, the Business Growth Programme is run from Shine, in Harehills, in partnership with Leeds University Business School and Leeds Ahead. The Business Growth Programme stems from a global initiative from Goldman Sachs, known as the 10,000 Small Business Programme, which aims to support SMEs to grow and is the first time it has been tried in the UK. Dina Powell, president of the Goldman Sachs Foundation, said: “A lot of initiatives focus on start-ups but we wanted to help that segment of people with a good business model but who need help to create more jobs and growth. “We are very proud of the fact that because of the success of this investment in Leeds we are now starting a national programme. “This is not just a programme we have funded, this is something that has been very carefully researched and that we are involved with for the long term. We could not be more delighted with the results.” The Business Growth Programme sees participants take part in a 13-week series of tutor-led sessions on all aspects of running a business and work in groups with their fellow students to discuss the issues they are facing and learn from each other. On leaving the programme, graduates are each linked to a mentor from Goldman Sachs who help guide them as they implement the growth plans they have drawn up during the course. Michelle Pinggera, Goldman Sachs chief of staff for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, said: “Research had shown us that there was a very strong SME base here and a strong emphasis on entrepreneurship but what really made the decision to start in Leeds was the quality of partners here was fantastic. “What this programme offers is a learning experience for people who need that extra piece of knowledge to unlock their potential.” Leeds City Council chief executive Tom Riordan hosted a reception for the first graduates at Leeds Civic Hall yesterday. Former professional footballer Achille Traore was among the small business owners to take part in the pilot programme. His business, TopScreenMedia, places digital media kiosks selling event tickets and providing promotional offers in areas with large numbers of people such as shopping centres and train stations. The company is celebrating securing a contract with a major event ticket firm and since starting the programme has grown the number of kiosks it operates from two to 10 with 20 more in the pipeline. “I have a Masters in economics and when I applied they asked me why? I told them this is about real money, my money and the course is about business in practice. “This course has built the foundations to take the business to the next level. The curriculum takes everything into account and is focused on how to build your business. “Many busineses, ones that have been around for many years, don’t ask themselves the important questions. We are growing rapidly and it’s really important we have everything in place. “The growth groups were a chance to sit around a table with five other businesses and it becomes a sounding board where you get honest advice from other business owners.” Launched in 2009, TopScreenMedia employs five people and is about to take on a further member of staff.
TSM install in the Student Hub at Leeds Met
The Headingley campus of Leeds Metropolitan University has recently undergone a refurbishment to modernise the Student Hub. As a result they wanted a TSM information kiosk by one of the entrances as a way to communicate with students and find out what they want from their University. With 26,000+ students it can be difficult for everybody’s voice to be heard. The TSM kiosk helps the issue by acting as a student engagement terminal in the heart of the student area. With all the information in one convenient location such as contact details for staff members, help and advice, a calendar of union events, special offers, election voting and so much more, students can find what they’re looking for easily and efficiently On top of which, it can be used by the University to post adverts and messages on the top signage screen and see them instantly played out to the student area. Likewise, information can be changed and updated in real-time on the kiosks’ touch screen so students can keep up to date with what’s going on without the need to ask staff members or visit message boards.
TSM Install at Montcalm Luxury Hotel, London
The Montcalm Hotel is the newest luxury hotel in London. Sitting at the top of Park Lane in the heart of the capital, the hotel has a fresh, contemporary design while preserving its heritage values. The Montcalm offers a superb choice of luxurious accommodation, with an emphasis on luxury comfort. TSM is privileged to have been chosen to supply this 5 star boutique hotel with signage screens for their high profile events situated in their beautifully stylish ballroom. In the ballroom are two 46″ screens with one 55″ screen just outside in the hallway. On top of which, TSM also built two bespoke totem screens with edge to edge glass that can be placed in the room and used in addition to the wall mounted units if and when they’re required. All screens can be controlled remotely and have business branding and custom built frames for a professional looking finish.
TSM Install in Ripon Town Hall
TSM has recently installed an information kiosk in the newly refurbished Tourist Information Centre in Ripon Town Hall, accompanied by a 55″ wall mounted HD screen to display Ripon specific messages and event information. The kiosk will be used by visitors for casual internet, general information and to print exclusive special offers for local businesses.
TSM Install at York University
Top Screen Media has successfully installed two digital kiosks in the Student Union of York University. To maximise the exposure to the 23,000 students, the kiosks are on different campuses but both in prime locations to best attract the attention of students. The University recognises that a TSM kiosk will open up the possibility to interact and communicate with students in an easier and more efficient manner. Students can now easily purchase tickets for events, vote in elections, print special offers for local businesses, keep up to date with University information and so much more with a simple touch.
Charity container arrives in Ouagadougou
Top Screen Media has teamed up with Doncaster Refurnish to send a charity container to Ouagadougou as part of our CSR. The products in the container are distributed to hospitals, schools, villages and orphanages to help support the lack of material in these areas. Our ambition is to use the first container as a showcase tool to help create interest from local entrepreneurs in order to make this project a self funded and commercially viable project moving forward. Products include bed sheets, towels, cutlery, pans, bikes, furniture, clothes, chairs, whiteboards, PC’s etc. Doncaster Refurnish offer vital support by offering valuable advice, storage space, donating products and loading of the container. TSM install 24 hour kiosk at Leeds TIC
Top Screen Media have installed a new 24 hour information kiosk at the Tourist Information Centre in Leeds. This new kiosk is external to the centre, facing onto the concourse and accompanies the 2 TSM kiosks that are already located inside the centre. The aim here is to provide up-to-date information to the public even after the centre has closed as the station itself is open through the night. The easy to use touch screen navigation also makes it quick and simple for visitors to find exactly what they want to know. This information includes bus timetables, useful numbers, local accommodation and area maps as well as special offers for local businesses and much more.

TSM launches Doncaster with The Dome
Doncaster Rovers, Doncaster Culture & Leisure Trust and now Top Screen Media have teamed up to bring a fantastic new way of purchasing tickets to Doncaster Rovers fans. From now on people visiting Doncaster Dome will also have opportunity to purchase Rovers tickets, courtesy of the new Top Screen Media Kiosk.
